Leadership Capability Development
Hive Growth provides leadership capability development for technical experts and emerging leaders moving into management. Engagements typically cover planning, communication, alignment and the shift from doing the work to leading others.
Who it suits
Technical specialists, engineers, clinicians and sales stars who've just been handed a team.
Managers who were promoted for their expertise and are finding the skills that got them there aren't the ones the job needs.
Leadership teams who want to plan ahead, communicate clearly and pull in the same direction.
Organisations that want several leaders to build the same skills at once will get more from this than from separate one-off sessions.
Where We Focus
Enterprise: emerging leaders inside larger corporates, where the shift is as much political as personal.
Health Tech: clinical and technical experts stepping into product, operations or executive roles.
Climate Tech: engineers and scientists who now have to lead commercial teams.
Examples of Impact
Authentic Leadership through Storytelling
During Leadership Transformation workshops, I helped leaders move beyond the "corporate script" by anchoring their influence in personal authenticity. By facilitating deep-dives into what made them "proud to be a leader here," we identified raw, personal stories of impact that felt "normal" for them to share. This shifted the leadership culture from one of functional compliance to one of genuine connection; instead of just relaying head-office mandates, leaders began using their own "threads of pride" to drive transformation. The result was a leadership style that felt authentic to the individual and far more effective at building trust and momentum across their regional teams.
Human-Centric Influence in Technical Environments
In my work with senior engineering leaders at a technical consulting firm, I focused on shifting the leadership mindset from "technical expert" to "trusted advisor" in high-pressure commercial environments. By treating leadership as a form of root-cause analysis, I coached the team to uncover the human and political drivers behind complex client needs rather than just responding to price-driven tenders. We focused on building trust through deep curiosity and on asking the questions that reveal a client’s internal risks and stakeholder pressures. This allowed these leaders to move the conversation away from the "race to the bottom" on price and toward long-term value, as evidenced by major project wins where the differentiator was the leader's ability to provide insights the client hadn't yet considered.
FAQs
Check the fit with us by looking at what others ask.
What is leadership capability development? It is building the skills a person needs to lead others, rather than only do the work themselves. For most clients that means planning, communication, alignment and managing change.
Who is it for? Technical experts and emerging leaders who are new to managing people, and leadership teams who want to work together better.
Do you run workshops or one-to-one programs? Both. Workshops suit a team or cohort learning together. One-to-one suits a leader with a specific challenge. Many programs combine the two.
Can the content be tailored to our industry? Yes. We build the material around your business and use your own situations as the case studies.
How do you measure whether it worked? We agree the outcomes with the sponsor at the start, such as fewer escalations, faster decisions or a clearer plan from each leader, and report against them at the end.
How do we get started? Book a free initial meeting. We'll talk about who's involved and what you need them to do differently, then propose options.
